Liposuction or suction lipopoplasty is a surgical technique by which unwanted deposits of fat that is resistant to diet and exercise is removed. It can be performed as a primary procedure or done in combination with a tummy tuck, thigh lift or facelift.
To perform liposuction, Dr du Toti uses the modern tumescence technique. The fatty tissue is prepared by infiltrating it with a special liquid solution. A hollow surgical instrument called a cannula is used to perform the liposuction.
You can anticipate a 10 day recuperation period and will most likely wear a special “pressure garment” for up to 6 weeks.
The best candidates for liposuction are individuals of relatively normal weight who have excess fat in particular body areas. Having firm, elastic skin will result in a better final contour after liposuction. Skin that has diminished tone due to weight loss, stretch marks, or natural ageing will not reshape itself to the new contours and may require additional surgical techniques to remove and tighten excess skin. Liposuction by itself will not improve areas of dimpled skin known as cellulite. Individuals with poor skin tone, medical problems, obesity, or unrealistic expectations may not be candidates for liposuction.
Potential risks and complications:
- Fat embolism syndrome
- Deep Vein Thrombosis and PE
- Lidocaine toxicity
- contpur irregularities
- skin necrosis, seromas
- chronic induration
During a private consultation, Dr du Toit will provide advise whether liposuction is the best treatment for you
